Two reasons to buy a belt component rather than a complete belt:
Your buckle is intact but the leather has worn out. A quality automatic buckle — particularly one with a PVD coating or precision mechanism — is worth more than the strap it came on. Replacing the strap extends the life of the hardware indefinitely.
Your strap is intact but you want different hardware. A leather strap in good condition can accept a new buckle as long as the widths are compatible. Changing the buckle changes the visual identity of the belt entirely.
