What is dual-layer cowhide construction? The GridLine strap uses a top-layer cowhide surface bonded to a stabilising backing layer. This construction produces a lighter, more immediately flexible belt than single-layer full-grain leather. The trade-off is long-term durability — layered construction with an adhesive bond is more susceptible to edge separation over years of sustained daily wear than single-layer construction. How does the ratchet mechanism work? A spring-loaded pawl inside the buckle locks onto the track at each 0.5cm increment as the strap is fed through.
