PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A 36mm automatic ratchet buckle with a laser-milled square grid pattern across the full buckle face. The grid is pressed into the hard zinc alloy surface — precise, uniform, and tactile. The geometric texture provides grip when operating the release lever and creates visual depth at close range that a plain-face buckle cannot produce.

Hard zinc alloy is a denser formulation than standard zinc alloy — heavier for its size, more resistant to warping under sustained tension, and less prone to surface pitting under daily wear. The Grid-Lock is the hardest-construction buckle in the standard replacement range. At 80mm × 40mm it is proportionate for a business-to-casual context — present enough to register without protruding beyond the strap edges.

Two finishes:

Stealth Black (matte): A deep, uniform matte black. The grid pattern reads as surface relief under the flat dark finish — subtle at distance, visible up close. Suits black and dark leather straps in casual and smart casual contexts.

Industrial Grey (brushed metallic): A brushed semi-matte metallic grey. The brushed finish catches the grid edges differently from the matte black — the individual grid squares have micro-highlights along their edges. Suits grey, black, and dark brown leather straps. The more versatile of the two finishes for neutral wardrobes.

36mm width note: This buckle is 36mm — 1mm wider than the standard 35mm replacement buckle. It fits 34–36mm ratchet-track straps. A standard 35mm strap fits with 0.5mm clearance each side — functionally equivalent to a full fit.

Standard zinc alloy (used in most replacement buckles in this range) is a reliable everyday material. Hard zinc alloy is a denser alloy formulation used where higher wear resistance and structural rigidity are required.

The practical difference for a belt buckle:

Weight: Hard zinc alloy is noticeably heavier for the same dimensions — it feels more substantial in hand.

Wear resistance: The harder alloy resists surface pitting and deformation at contact points under sustained daily tension more effectively than standard zinc.

Finish retention: The matte and brushed finishes on hard zinc alloy hold their surface character longer under daily friction than equivalent finishes on standard alloy.

COMPATIBILITY

Requires: 34–36mm ratchet-track strap with sawtooth or centre-track groove on the back face.

36mm vs 35mm: This buckle is 36mm inner width, not 35mm. It fits 34–36mm straps. Standard 35mm straps fit with minor clearance. A 38mm strap will not fit.

Not compatible with: Pin-buckle straps with holes. Straps wider than 36mm. Flat-back straps without a track groove.

HOW TO INSTALL

1. Flip the toothed pressure clamp on the back of the buckle to open
2. Slide the 35mm ratchet-track strap into the 36mm housing
3. Snap the clamp closed — the internal teeth engage the strap
4. Pull the strap firmly to confirm the clamp is seated
5. Test the bottom-frame lever release

CARE

Wipe with a dry cloth. The matte and brushed finishes are fingerprint-resistant — surface marks are less visible than on polished chrome. The grid pattern collects fine dust in the recessed squares over time — occasional wiping keeps the pattern definition clear.

FAQ

Is the Grey finish shiny? No — the Industrial Grey is a brushed semi-matte metallic finish, not polished. It has a moderate sheen that highlights the grid pattern edges without being reflective. Less conspicuous than a mirror finish, more present than flat matte.

Is the grid pattern raised or recessed? The grid lines are recessed — the squares between the lines are the raised surface, and the grid pattern is the network of recessed channels between them. Under the brushed finish the recessed channels appear slightly darker, creating the grid visibility.
